Senior Information Letter

We hope this letter will answer some of your questions and provide you with helpful information. Please contact us if you have any questions. Gateway_@bellsouth.net

Note: We cannot register returning seniors until we receive a grade report for the previous year.

I. DIPLOMAS

  • A. The diploma will be mailed out approximately two weeks after we receive the final grade form. Plan ahead because coursework must be finished in time to send final grades.
  • B. All diplomas will be sent directly to the home address.

II. TRANSCRIPT / SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION REQUESTS

  • A. Include student’s full name and date of birth on the request.
  • B. Typically a request is processed within 10 business days of being received by a guidance counselor.
  • C. Watch deadline dates and make your request in plenty of time for us to fulfill it by the deadline.
  • D. Be sure we have the student’s most recent ACT/SAT scores.
  • E. Be sure we have received current Grade/Attendance forms. (Transcripts sent to colleges in January or February of the senior year should typically include fall-semester grades.)
  • F. When applying to a college for admission or scholarship
    • 1. Read forms carefully.
      • a. Many have a section requiring school official/counselor verification. Complete the student/parent portion and be sure to sign if required, then send the form to Gateway for verification and signature by school official.
      • b. We will complete the form, attach an official transcript, and send it to
the college (via fax and/or mail).
    • 2. Please be sure to provide all pertinent college information: correct address, name of contact person, fax number, etc.
    • 3. Note: Many colleges have forms which can be downloaded from their websites.

III. GRADE/ATTENDANCE REPORTS

  • A. Be sure to use specific course titles.
  • B. Be sure to assign credits, enter the number of days completed as well as
the date the semester ended and sign the grade form.
  • C. Grade forms with problems will be returned to you. (This includes those which are not signed or lack final grades, as well as those which lack the days completed or credits have been omitted, and/or those having conflicts concerning the ending dates of semesters.)
    D. Summer school grades must be submitted on a separate grade form marked, “Summer (year).”
  • E. Note: Economics seems to be the course that causes the most confusion.
    • 1. This study focuses on influences of government, business, and individuals
on economic systems (i.e. both macroeconomics and microeconomics).
    • 2. This requirement is not met by accounting, marketing, consumer math, home
      economics, or personal finance

IV. GRADUATION

  • A. Ceremonies
    • 1. To participate in a local area graduation ceremony, contact graduation coordinator ASAP—many have deadlines.
    • 2. Since Gateway Total Home Education Program does not have a graduation ceremony, many families choose private ceremonies at home or church. Others prefer large, formal ceremonies (see list).
    • 3. Establish date—school year should end at least two weeks prior to the ceremony (so that grades can be sent to us in time for us to send diploma to you in time for graduation).
  • B. Supplies
    • 1. You may print your own invitations. You can design and order your own class ring through a local department store, jeweler or graduation supply company.
    • 2. Websites for ordering graduation supplies (caps, gowns, class rings, etc.):
      www.milligans.com
      www.hslda.org
www.balfour.com (has Gateway’s mascot on file for rings)
    • 3. Gateway’s official school colors are red, white and blue.
    • 4. Gateway’s mascot is a “Challenger,” which is a knight mounted on a horse.
